[chapter 2] + The Planned Escape +
This is the place where they threw the lowest of the low creatures and now, I had been spending a whole week in here. I am badly wounded. I haven’t eaten very well. If it wasn’t for Atheis’ gentle heart, I would’ve starved to death by now. It was my own father who threw me here and it was Darcel who told all the security personnel of the palace to heavily guard the dungeons. I guess I should be thankful knowing that the highest person of all the security team is my brother. He told the guards not to interfere every time he came for a visit.
No one knows that Atheis secretly helps me and is secretly somewhat siding up with me. I know he was against my way of thinking but at the very least he still considers me as his brother.
Now is my 8th night in this cell. My body was weak and I was hurting everywhere. It was dark outside but I can clearly hear the sound of footsteps and the sound of rattling keys. What did my father order the guards to do now? Were they going to kill me?
I pretended to be asleep or dead, for that matter. Anyway, I lay motionless with my eyes closed. I soon heard the sound of the key unlocking my cell. Here we go. What fate awaits me now?
“Leviathan… Leviathan!” A familiar voice whispered as he gently tapped me on the face. It was Atheis. I slowly and painstakingly opened my eyes and I saw that he was heavily armored and he carried chains with him. Without a word, he locked my wrists with those cuffs and held the other end of the strong chain.
“Atheis, What’s going on? what are you doing?” I asked him. With one tap on the shoulder, he softly replied “I am getting you out of here so just please play along”. I did not understand. Why was he letting me escape? More importantly, where will he bring me? Was I officially being exiled?
Then, as if reading my mind, Atheis lowered himself down to where I was sitting and with the moon shedding some light from the small windows that hung above, I saw his eyes; his eyes that were in the verge of crying. “Take care of yourself, alright Leviathan? I… I can’t afford seeing you like this every time. You are my brother, my precious older brother. Go somewhere safe. Save yourself. If anyone asks, I’ll tell them that… I killed you.”
These words coming out of my brother’s mouth were something I could not believe. True, this whole plan would benefit the both of us but it would also mean I won’t be able to see him ever again let alone talk to him. He was the only reason I kept on living. He is my only family now. How can this all be?
Soon my train of thought was interrupted. He quickly stood up and pulled the other end of the chain as strong as he could, making me jump to my feet. Moments later, he spoke. “This will be the last time we’ll ever see and talk to each other, Leviathan. Take good care of yourself” he said as he struggled to maintain a calm and firm tone. I knew it was the last time. I knew that once we get out of this wretched place, we can’t be seen talking. It would put him to harm. But still, I could not utter a single word; a single sign of farewell.
